Grapenol by Solaray is a highly advanced product that contains OPC's (oligomeric proanthocyanidins) derived exclusively from grape seeds. The grape seed extract OPC's have been subjected to rigorous bioavailability studies using advanced isotope marking techniques. The OPC's in this product are provided in a synergistic base of bioflavonoids.
Proanthocyanidins, found primarily in grape seeds — also called “OPCs” for oligomeric proanthocyanidins and “PCOs” for procyanidolic oligomers or "pycnogenols" — are a class of nutrients belonging to the bioflavonoid family. The antioxidant function of proanthocyanidins is the most important function separating this supplement from other bioflavonoids.
Proanthocyanidins appear to have antimutagenic (anti-cancer) activity.
Proanthocyanidins have been shown to strengthen capillaries using as little as two 50 mg tablets per day. Women with chronic venous insufficiency are helped by using a total of 150 mg per day.
Proanthocyanidins (200 mg per day for five weeks) have improved aspects of vision (visual performance in the dark and after exposure to glare) in healthy people.
