Description: CAL-M-D™ w/vitamin K2 & D3 120Tabs.
Citrate, Magnesium, Vitamin
K2 & D3 is
an extra strength bone building product, that
helps maintain healthy bone, teeth and muscle.
Calcium Citrate has shown to have superior bio-availability. Natural vitamin
K2 activates osteocalcin, a protein required to bind calcium
to strengthen the skeleton. Vitamin D3 helps the body absorb calcium, which is important for the development of strong bones and teeth.
Calcium: is one of the most important nutrients your body needs to maintain health. Calcium does many things for your body. Everyone knows calcium is beneficial to bones and teeth. It is also important to keep your muscles and nerves working properly. Lacking calcium in your diet can greatly effect your health now and in the future.
When your body does not get enough calcium it begins to take it from the bones. When this happens, if the calcium is not replaced through your diet the bones become deficient in calcium. This can lead to osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is a disease where the bones get thin and brittle. It is fast becoming a major disease among older adults.
There are many types of calcium supplements available today. The most common forms of supplemental calcium include calcium citrate, calcium carbonate, and calcium phosphate. Although the different forms of calcium have similar names, they are not the same. Choosing a supplement can be confusing if you don't have the facts.
Calcium Citrate: we included the citrate form of calcium form of calcium for better bioavailability. Calcium citrate is absorbed 2½ times better than carbonate (Journal of Clinical Pharmacology. Nov. ‘99; American Journal of Therapeutics Dec. ‘99). Women in early menopause who supplement with calcium citrate 800mg daily prevented bone loss in spine, thigh and forearm (Mission Pharmacal, UT Southwestern Sakhaee).
Vitamin D3: is essential for promoting calcium absorption in the gut and maintaining adequate serum calcium and phosphate concentrations to enable normal mineralization of bone and prevent hypocalcemic tetany. It is also needed for bone growth and bone remodeling by osteoblasts and osteoclasts. Without sufficient vitamin D, bones can become thin, brittle, or misshapen. Vitamin D has other roles in human health, including modulation of neuromuscular, immune function and reduction of inflammation.
Most supplementation trials of the effects of vitamin D on bone health also include calcium, so it is not possible to isolate the effects of each nutrient. The authors of a recent evidence-based review of research concluded that supplements of both vitamin D3 and calcium decreased the risk of falls, fractures, and bone loss in elderly individuals aged 62-85 years.
The decreased risk of fractures occurred primarily in elderly women aged 85 years, on average, and living in a nursing home. Women should consult their health care providers about their needs for vitamin D (and calcium) as part of an overall plan to prevent or treat osteoporosis. Recent studies show, that taking 2000 IU or more is safe and is highly recommended.
Natural Vitamin K2: The role of vitamin K2 has for the past decade been linked to two of the most important health issues, osteoporosis and cardiovascular disease. This link specifically centers on calcium utilization – implying that there is concurrent arterial calcification and osteoporosis when metabolism of calcium is inadequate. This is called the Calcium Paradox.
The first evidence that poor vitamin K status is associated with an increased risk of femoral neck fracture was postulated by Hart et al., who found that circulating vitamin K concentrations in patients with hip fractures were extremely low. There is a significant correlation between hip fracture incidence and vitamin K intake.
In combination with calcium and vitamin D, a moderate effect of osteoporosis BMD (bone mineral density) has been reported (35% less bone loss than with calcium and vitamin D alone).
There is not enough vitamin K in Western diet, therefore the majority of children and adults are vitamin K deficient. This may have a negative impact on bone health, it may lead to lower bone mass. That may cause more bone fractures. The only safe and effective Natural vitamin K2 is now available as MenaQ7™.
Current recommendations are 45 micrograms of natural vitamin K2 as menaquinone-7 (MenaQ7™) per day to promote adequate vitamin K status and to help maintain bone health.
Magnesium: Due to research that magnesium deficiency plays a role in the development of osteoporosis (Dreosti 1995) lack of magnesium can effect the body’s ability of using Vitamin D – important for bone density. Magnesium helps promote proper absorption of calcium and other minerals.
Your bones may not feel weak now, but bone loss may have already begun, in some cases as early as in the twenties. But you can reduce the risk of osteoporosis by taking high quality calcium and Vitamin D3 supplements now. In fact, the best time to start is during childhood.
It’s not only how much you take that matters, but how much your bones absorb. We use only the most absorbable forms of calcium and Vitamin K2 & D3, adding magnesium to further increase absorption. Every batch is then tested by an independent laboratory to ensure that you get what the label promises to give.
