What is Pregnenolone?
Pregnenolone is the precursor to all steroid hormones(those made by the ovaries, testicles, and adreneal glands), including the progesterone, the cortisones, and DHEA.
Pregnenolone is made from cholesterol in the body. In turn, it can be synthesized into a number of hormones - estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, DHEA, aldosterone, cortisol, etc. It is, in fact, the master hormone from which all the steroid hormones are derived.
How Does Pregnenolone Work?
Pregnenolone is a hormone that is used by the body to make all other steroid hormones in the body, including (but not limited to) progesterone, cortisol, aldosterone, testosterone, and estrogen. The body makes pregnenolone using cholesterol. In addition to its use as a precursor for steroid hormones, pregnenolone can block the effects of GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid), a brain chemical that can slow down or stop certain nerve signals in the brain.
Benefits of Pregnenolone:
Pregnenolone is reported to have several benefits, such as treating depression, arthritis, multiple sclerosis, and seizures. This hormone is also claimed to be beneficial for slowing down the aging process, enhancing memory, increasing energy, stimulating the immune system, and improving the body's response to stress. However, there is insufficient scientific evidence to support the effectiveness of these pregnenolone benefits.
Pregnenolone is a hormone that is produced naturally in the human body and is also available as a dietary supplement. Pregnenolone is sometimes claimed to be beneficial for the following conditions:
Fibrocystic breast disease
Premenstrual syndrome (PMS)
Multiple sclerosis (MS)
Injuries or trauma.
Also, pregnenolone is promoted to be beneficial for slowing down the aging process, enhancing memory, increasing energy, stimulating the immune system, detoxifying the body, and improving the body's response to stress.
There is not enough scientific evidence to evaluate the benefits of pregnenolone for any use. As with many supplements, claims for the benefits of pregnenolone are sometimes exaggerated, and these claims must be evaluated critically. Most importantly, it is essential to remember that natural products should not be used carelessly, as many natural products can be dangerous (for instance, many poisons are natural products).
Pregnenolone Use in Children:
It is not known if pregnenolone use is safe for children, and it is generally not recommended for use in children. As with many medications or supplements, children may be more sensitive to the effects and toxicities of pregnenolone. Because pregnenolone may affect hormones, it may have negative effects on children.
It can be taken together with DHEA and help increase the effectiveness of the DHEA. It helps balance moods, build muscle, reduce fatigue, reduce stress, improve memory, and help with arthritis.
