What is Shark Cartilage?

Shark cartilage is just like it sounds, cartilage from a shark.

It has been a widely heralded phenomenon in recent years that has attributed to the sudden popularity of shark cartilage.

What is this phenomenon?
Studies conducted at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology showed that supplementing with shark cartilage causes a decrease in blood flow to tumors in the body, thereby limiting tumor growth. Therefore, it could help prevent tumor-based cancer.

Shark cartilage is a food supplement made from the powdered cartilage of sharks. It is loaded with calcium and phosphorous, and contains amino acid compounds that seemingly inhibit cellular angiogenesis—the ability to create new blood vessels. Also included in shark cartilage is chondroitin sulfate, which contains anti-inflammatory properties.

The effectiveness of taking shark-cartilage orally is questioned by many doctors who feel its active ingredient may be destroyed during digestion, thus not allowing it to enter the blood stream. Some chemicals contained in Shark cartilage include: Amino acids (some), calcium, mucopolysaccharides, phosphorus, and protein.
